Choosing Laser Eye Surgery for astigmatism

diagram of eye condition Astigmatism

It is often claimed that Laser Eye Surgery cannot treat astigmatism. At Smile Laser Eye Centre Multan, we have been using laser surgery to treat astigmatism for many years. In the hands of an expert laser eye surgeon it is possible to correct astigmatic vision using Femto Bladeless LASIK or PRK /TransPRK.

You can find out if you’re a suitable candidate for astigmatism treatment at Smile Laser Eye Centre Multan by contacting our team. What is Astigmatism?

Astigmatism is slightly more complex to treat than myopia or hyperopia (short-sightedness and long-sightedness) because it requires correction in more than one plane.

In myopia and hyperopia, the eye surgeon reshapes a normal-shaped spherical cornea. But an astigmatic cornea is shaped more like a rugby ball than the normal sphere. This creates a flattened cone shape at the front of the eye. As light enters at different angles through this cone, two points of focus are formed rather than one, causing you to see a blurred image. This accounts for the astigmatism symptoms like blurred small print, difficulty reading, the inability to see both near and far without squinting, constant headache, and fatigue.

The conical shape of the cornea means that the laser eye surgeon must take account of every distortion, in every direction. Although this is more complex than standard myopia or hyperopia but virtually all astigmatism symptoms are treatable by an expert surgeon using the right technology.

Here at Smile Laser Eye Centre Multan, we routinely treat high astigmatism cases with world’s most advanced Zeiss MEL90.
